Sofa Cleaning Price Comparison – How Much Does It Cost to Clean a Sofa?

Updated: March 1, 2024

Looking for a professional sofa cleaning company that will clean the sofas in your home, refresh them, and bring them back to a condition that's almost as good as new — but you're completely confused by all the information out there and the 5 different price quotes you've received so far?

Don't worry, it's not as complicated as it seems, and we promise to help make sense of it all. Along the way, we'll also explain how to choose a quality professional who will get the job done right.

What goes into a professional price quote?

The price can vary depending on the size of the sofas, the type of fabric, the level of dirt, and the number of cushions.

I have a two-seat sofa, but the professional told me it's actually a three-seater. How can that be?

The number of seats is measured by the length of the sofa — every 60 cm counts as one seat.

That means if your sofa is 180 cm long, it should be treated as a three-seater, even if it's divided into just two seat cushions.

If my sofa is really dirty, why should I have to pay more?

As in any other field, in extreme cases involving very large amounts of dirt, professionals will charge extra, since it means harder work, more materials, and more time.

But it's important to note that a few stains don't count as an extreme case — an extreme case is when a white sofa has turned brown, or when a layer of grease and grime has built up on the seats to the point where you can no longer make out the fabric's natural color.

My seat and backrest cushions come apart — why am I being asked to pay extra?

The reason is very simple: when both the seat and the backrest of your sofa are made up of separate, removable cushions, the price goes up.

That's because there's a lot more textile to clean than on a sofa without removable cushions.

A professional company will clean each cushion thoroughly, one by one, and only then clean the sofa's frame.

Why does the price change depending on the fabric type?

There are synthetic fabrics that clean easily and quickly, and there are natural fabrics — like cotton or Impala fabric — that require more expensive materials and several rounds of rinsing to reach the best possible result.

I have synthetic-fabric sofas with no removable cushions and no tough stains. I got quotes as low as 250 shekels and as high as 900 shekels — how am I supposed to choose, and what causes such a big gap?

The reason for such large gaps is that the sofa and carpet cleaning market is completely unregulated and isn't overseen by any professional body.

Quotes of 250-400 shekels come only from inexperienced handymen, or from people who quote a certain amount over the phone and then try to hike the price once they arrive at your home — sometimes by as much as 300% more than what they originally quoted.

An outrageous quote of 800-1000 shekels usually comes from companies or workers who, frankly, don't even know how to clean sofas properly.

There are many companies on the market posing as legitimate businesses, but what actually happens is that they close the deal with the customer for 800 shekels and then hand the job off to unskilled workers willing to do it for 300 shekels, pocketing the rest.

Customers who book a service from companies like this often find themselves the next day with soaking wet sofas, dirty upholstery, or torn fabric.

Then begins an endless runaround where the company and the subcontractor keep passing responsibility back and forth, and the customer is the one who loses out in the end — usually having to hire a proper professional company afterward and pay double to repair the damage caused by the unskilled workers.

So how much should it cost to clean a 3+2 synthetic-fabric sofa set with no removable cushions?

The fairest price range for professional work should be 500-650 shekels.

How do you choose a professional?

Ask what products they use.

Find out what their working method is.

Don't be shy about asking to speak with 2-3 of their past customers.

Check how many years of experience the company has.

Take a look at their website.

Ask whether they're willing to do a demonstration before starting the job, whether they're responsible for any damage that might occur during cleaning, and whether they guarantee the result.

Check the company's reviews on Google or Facebook.

Warning signs:

Cheap, unprofessional equipment that you could just as easily buy yourself at a general store or hardware shop.

The company claims to have 5 years of experience but still hasn't gotten around to building a proper business website.

A suspiciously cheap quote given over the phone without asking for photos beforehand, or without asking how many seats there are and what type of fabric is involved.
